The Windsor Wolves defeated The Entrance Tigers for the first time since 2010 with a 28-26 victory in the re-scheduled Round 3 match.

The Entrance Tigers were forced to make a number of changes prior to kick off which resulted in a reshuffled side taking the field. The surprise was prop Sinbad Kali playing the match on the wing where he made a real impact. Windsor were hoping to give veteran Shenelle Haumono the perfect home celebration after the 2nd rower celebrated his 150th game last weekend.

The Entrance were first to trouble the scorers when a Jake Fitzpatrick crossfield bomb was well taken by Brandon Liaina. The Wolves kick off sailed over the head of the Tigers’ players resulting in a line drop out. The cardinal sin after putting on points. From the ensuing set player of the match Solofa Silipa ran a beautiful line to score wide out. Back to back penalties then gave the visitors some much needed field position. From the ensuing set Luke McInnes run a nice inside line to crash over next to the sticks. Both sides were going try for try when Kieran Croft went over after a good angled run. In true fashion the Tigers reciprocated four minutes later with Jacob Safiti on the end of a Fitzpatrick chip kick. Windsor then stole the lead with Silipa going on a long run before drawing the fullback sending PJ Cartwright on a 50 metre dash to the try line. The Wolves were howling right on the break with Matt Boss showing great footwork to get across the line. Iain Riccardi’s third conversion of the night took the score to 22-14 at the games break.

Both sides made scrappy starts to the 2nd stanza with plenty of possession squandered. The first opportunity presented itself at the 50 minute mark only to see Vila Halafihi held up over the line. Four minutes later The Entrance went one better than their opponents with Allen Mulia-Malau retrieving a bomb that was let bounce by the home side. Fitzpatrick’s conversion reduced the home sides lead to just two. The Tigers clawed their way to the lead after Liaina collected his 2nd courtesy of Fitzpatrick’s boot once again. Windsor regained the lead six minutes later after a good hand off from Myles Taueli found a flying Kauri Aupouri who did well stepping his way through the defence to score. The last 15 minutes was edge of your seat stuff with both sides going close to scoring. Two massive plays from the home side swung the pendulum their way. The first was a grass cutting tackle by man of the moment Haumono who pulled down a flying Scott Jones who was destined to score. The next was a superb in goal catch from winger PJ Cartwright.
