Peninsula Seagulls               42
Auburn Warriors                   30

The Peninsula Seagulls continued their dream start to the season with a 42-30 victory over the last placed Auburn Warriors.

Peninsula’s sixth win from as many starts leaves the debutants outright first. The team from the Northern Beaches has the whole competition talking racking up win after win. As for the Auburn Warriors they are entrenched at the bottom of the ladder after their sixth straight defeat. The Warriors have a very young side but are competitive every week. Peninsula set the tone early skipping to a 26-0 lead after just twenty minutes of play. The Warriors clawed their way back just before the break to leave the score at 26-12 as the teams headed for the sheds. The Warriors gave the visitors a scared mid way through the 2nd stanza reducing the lead to just six points. It wasn’t to be with the Seagulls running away with the match 42-30.

Peninsula opened the scoring after just forty seconds of play courtesy of a Tim Pont four pointer. Pont went on a strong charge and just seemed to beat every defended he came across. Peninsula were at it again with their next use of the ball after a Luke Martin bomb was spilt by Dean Spanos. The ball came flying out straight into the waiting arms of Richie Goodwin who crossed wide out. The Seagulls were flying high when a short side raid came up trumps for skipper Vinny Ngaro. Ngaro went from scorer to orchestrator for the Seagulls’ next four pointer. The 2nd rower laid one on the boot before Rhys Wolloghan won the race to the ball just inside the dead ball line. It was just to easy for the visitors with Tarrant Mariner exposing some weak edge defence powering his way through to score. Peninsula then camped themselves in the Warriors red zone only to be denied by poor ball control. If Peninsula had capitalized on the possession they had the scoreline would not have looked out of place at a cricket match. Auburn finally saw some ball and found the line through Aaron Pene. Auburn took the momentum into the break after a Majed Hammoud grubber found Michael Munday.

Peninsula crossed first after the break with Ngaro powering his way across wide out. Auburn then went bang bang with tries in the 52nd and 55th minutes of play. The first was courtesy of a Munday bomb which was dropped at the back. The ball was then sent along the back line resulting in a try to winger Mitchell Hayward. The Warriors reduced the lead to six when Pene crossed under the sticks. Auburn shot themselves in the foot with errors gifting the Seagulls great field position. The visitors made the Warriors pay with Wolloghan and Oldfield crossing for tries. Auburn finished the match with Dylan Rintoul crossing wide out.
